DOLE-7 now under female leadership

Cebu City, Philippines. Two women directors now take the lead at the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 7 (DOLE-7).

Director IV Salome O. Siaton now sits as the DOLE-7’s Regional Director after replacing Atty. Johnson G. Cañete, who will be assigned for the meantime at the DOLE-Legal Service while awaiting for his assignment in a foreign post.

Prior to her assignment in DOLE RO-7, Director Siaton, a native of Iloilo City, was the Assistant Regional Director of DOLE Regional Office No. 6.

On her very first stint as Regional Director, she said “Leading a big organization is never an easy task. Taking note of all the deliverables of a Region as huge as Region-7 is already a gigantic responsibility. But I took on the challenge knowing that the Region, itself, is full of men and women who are capable, able, talented, skilled, and competent.”

Looking at the targets and making sure that they are being carried out is one thing, she added. “What is equally important is while everyone does each assigned tasks and try their best to collectively help realize the objectives of the organization, peace and favorable working relations among the officials and personnel is also being fostered and sustained,” she said further.

Siaton expects everyone to extend the same intensity of heartfelt support tothe new management. “Resistance to change is common. But I’m calling on everybody to keep an open mind and welcome changes. This assignment as Regional Director in Region-7 is also such a big change in my life requiring self-reassessment considering the big role I have to play in leading, prodding, and motivating everyone to work together towards the attainment of the organization’s objectives,” she added.

On the other hand, now assigned as Assistant Regional Director is Director III Lilia A. Estillore, who has replaced Atty. Roy L. Buenafe. The latter is now back to the Region’s Mediation-Arbitration and Legal Service Unit (MALSU) as Mediator-Arbiter.

For four (4) years, Director Estillore had intermittently functioned as OIC-Assistant Regional Director of the Region.

“I’m so happy to be working with Director Siaton and I will be happier being the wind behind her wings as her Assistant Regional Director,” she said while urging the men and women of the DOLE-7 to work as a team, supporting and enhancing each other like the geese that keep on honking each other’s wings while flying in a V formation.

Today, in a simple turnover ceremony, Directors Siaton and Estillore accepted the symbolic key of responsibility from their predecessors, which was witnessed by the heads and personnel of the different field offices and divisions of DOLE-7.

Earlier during the joint DOLE-Regional Coordinating Committee (DOLE-RCC) flag raising ceremony attended by the heads of the DOLE’s Attached Agencies, Atty. Cañete turned over his committee chairmanship to Director Siaton.

Directors Siaton and Estillore were both appointed by President Rodrigo RoaDuterte as full-fledged Regional Director and Assistant Regional Director, respectively, on 25 January 2019.
