6 security guards; each paid 100-K plus thru DOLE’s inspection

Cebu City, Philippines. Six (6) security guards recently received payment for their salaries and other benefits amounting to more than P600,000.00, confirmed DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton.

Said security guards, who are still connected to their employer, a well-known security agency based in Cebu City, each received P 110,000.00 as payment for Overtime Pay; Regular Holiday Pay; and Service Incentive Leave (SIL).

Affected workers personally received their payment at the DOLE Regional Office through its Mediation-Arbitration and Legal Service Unit (MALSU).

According to Director Siaton, the DOLE immediately responded to a complaint it received against a certain security agency. “We make sure to respond to complaints by sending labor inspectors to establishments being complained of. Complaint Inspection (CI) is given priority and can be done as a response even to anonymous complaints.

Apart from Complaint Inspection, the DOLE also conducts Routine Inspection (RI) as another mode of checking the companies’ compliance to labor laws covering private establishments, including their branches, workplaces and their contractors and sub-contractors.

Routine Inspection, as compared to CI is done even without the complaints being sent to the DOLE. For the year, the Department under its Inspection Program targets to inspect around 4,800 establishments in Central Visayas.

“I urge all our constituents in the Region to help the Department monitor establishments’ compliance to all labor laws and legislations. If they’d notice anything that is not within the bounds of the law, then they should be able to report it right away to us,” said the Regional Head.

Complaints, reports or queries could be sent to, the DOLE-7’s official email address. The Department can also be reached thru its website,
