Former liaison officer in Cebu, now a budding entrepreneur


CEBU CITY – Mark Junray Lauron, a liaison officer of the Nexus Real Estate Corporation recently received a livelihood starter kit in the form of rice and load retailing business amounting to P20,000.00 under the Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGabay) Program of the Employees’ Compensation Commission after a work-related accident.  

On July 23, 2015, while riding his motorcycle on his way to work, Lauron figured in an accident which resulted to a severe head injury. Due to the said contingency, Lauron has stopped working.

Upon recovery, he filed for his SSS and EC benefits. The SSS granted him EC Permanent Partial Disability for fourteen months which amounted to P40,810.00.

In August 2018, Lauron applied to the KaGabay Program of the ECC thru its Regional Extension Unit in Cebu. The ECC provided him with a free long leg brace worth P40,000.00 and a hand splint worth P5,800.00.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako ng lubos sa ECC lalo na sa office nila dito sa Cebu sa tulong na ibinigay po nila sa akin. Pagbubutihan ko po na mapalago etong aking negosyo,” said Lauron.


The Employees’ Compensation Commission is a government corporation attached to the Department of Labor and Employment for policy coordination and guidance. It was created by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 626, as amended and as embodied in Title II of Book IV of the Labor Code of the Philippines. The ECC is mandated to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers and their dependents in the event of work-related contingencies such as sickness, injury, disability or death.
