61 Million spent by DOLE for TUPAD #BKBK


Cebu City, Philippines.  Over 15,000 workers in the informal sector joined the disinfection/sanitation project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

Dubbed as TUPAD #BKBK, the program on its on-going implementation now has the DOLE-7 shelled out at total of Php61,318,620.00 as of 06 May 2020.

According to DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton, of the total amount spent for the program, Php60,866,640.00 was spent for the wages of beneficiaries.

Workers were paid using the highest prescribed minimum wage rate applicable in the Region, which is Php404.00 per day and are to work for only four (4) hours daily for ten (10) days.

TUPAD #BKBK caters to the workers in the informal sector, whose income is greatly affected after the declaration of the enhanced community quarantine (EQC) due to COVID-19.

Director Siaton reiterated the kind of workers, who may avail the program that would include the following, namely: self-employed, occasional workers, house helpers, transport drivers (PUVs, pedicabs, tricycle drivers, etc.), small enterprise operators, home workers, sub-minimum wage workers, farmers, vendors, and fishermen, among others.

Local government units (LGUs) through their barangays or respective Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) are at the frontline in the implementation of the program as they are in-charge with coming up of the list of identified beneficiaries as well as with the completion and submission of complete documentary requirements to the Field Offices of DOLE having jurisdiction over their localities.
