BPO worker claims last pay thru virtual conference

Cebu City, Philippines. “Daghan kaayong salamat sa paghatag ug dakong atensyon ug oras para matabangan ming makuha among last pay, (Thank you very much for giving time and attention to us to help us claim our last pay),” said Ana, not her real name, who is a customer service representative in a Cebu City-based Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company located at IT Park, Lahug.

Ana and the representative of said BPO both attended a virtual conference held last week, which was facilitated by Engr. Rustico Levi Custorio of the DOLE Tri-City Field Office (TCFO).

“She has been working for the company for almost 5 years and she complained of an erroneous computation of her last pay. That prompted her to call our office and ask for help. And under the instructions of our Chief Emmanuel Y. Ferrer, we called both parties immediately and scheduled for a virtual conference. We are happy because both especially the management was cooperative,” said Rustico, assigned personnel.

On 9 July, a day after the virtual conference, Ana sent an email to the TCFO saying that her last pay of over Php17,000.00 was already credited to her account and added “Nalipay gyud ko nga naa na ang akong hinaguan. Abtik ug kamao gyud mo nga ni-handle sa akong sitwasyon especially si Sir Levi, detailed kayo siya, (I’m so happy that I already have what’s due to me for the number of years that I’ve worked in that company. You are all very quick and competent especially Sir Levi).”

She commended the efforts of the TCFO and wished for the office to help more workers like them.

On the same day, another virtual conference was set for Ana to sign a Quit Claim and Release document, which was sent to the management in exchange for the payment deposited to her account.

DOLE TCFO Chief Emmanuel Y. Ferrer congratulated Engr. Custorio for having acted on the concern right away despite the limitations that the present time poses.

“We just tried to re-engineer the way we do things. Since we can’t personally meet both parties to a conference because of the pandemic, we made use of technology available to us. Thank God it worked. To Engr. Levi, kudos,” he said.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome O. Siaton lauded the TCFO for doing their best in addressing the need of the worker. “These difficult times will not hinder us from delivering our services. Yes, there are limitations of course in the delivery of our programs and services in relation to the regulations set forth by proper authorities in order to ensure the safety of everyone. But at the same time, we make sure that the expectations and needs of our clients are addressed in the best possible way we could as an Office, despite all these circumstances” she said.

Apart from Ana, another BPO worker, Ben, not his real name, also received his last pay thru virtual conference set by the DOLE Tri-City Field Office. Both are residents of Consolacion, Cebu.

The Tri-City Field Office covers the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapulapu.
