Orphans receive gifts from DOLE and LTCE

Cebu City,Philippines.Almost eighty (80) orphans from the Albert Schweitzer Familienwerk Foundation Philippines, Inc. located in SitioTugbungan, Pilipog, Cordova, Cebu received sacks of rice, packs of noodles, pairs of slippers, school supplies, toiletries, and other variety of goods during the Gift-Giving Activity of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) and the Labor Tripartite Council in Education (LTCE).

Spearheaded by the DOLE-Technical Support Services-Labor Relations and Standards Division (TSSD-LRS) and LTCE, the undertaking helped cater to the daily needs of beneficiaries. Some are as young as one year olds; while others are already graduating in College.

DOLE-TSSD LRS Chief, Engineer Vicente D. Abordo said that witnessing the plight of said homeless children and their blinding need for food most especially, would propel the DOLE and the LTCE to do more by way of hopefully providing the orphanage with long-term assistance as requested by Ms. Martiniana Mercado, former DSWD Regional Director and its current Directress.

According to Abordo, all the DOLE’s Divisions and Units sponsored one (1) child for the Gift-Giving. The LTCE’s member-institutions and offices, on the other hand, that actively participated in the endeavor taking place on 23 December 2017, were Department of Education; Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U); University of San Jose-Recolletos (USJ-R); Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU); Advance Technology Institute (ATI); University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Inc.; Cebu Normal University (CNU); National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB-7); and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RWPB-7).

Abordo added that the Department would be seeking help from other Industry Tripartite Councils (ITCs) like the ITC-Construction for possible assistance that could be extended to Albert Schweitzer Familienwerk Foundation Philippines, Inc.

Said Gift-Giving is only one of the many endeavors that continue to put vigor into the ITCs and Tripartite Industrial Peace Councils (TIPCs) in the Region, making them alive and kicking, said DOLE-7 OIC-Regional

Director Cyril L. Ticao.

“We laud the LTCE and its member-institutions for venturing into another worthwhile initiative, which provided assistance to the less fortunate. We hope that apart from helping the DOLE sustain sound and peaceful labor relations in Central Visayas, best practices like the one demonstrated by the Council will also be emulated for and replicated by other ITCs and TIPCs in the Region,” he added.

Sustaining industrial peace and undertaking various initiatives without the cooperation from the labor and management sectors would be difficult, added the DOLE-7 Head.

“I thank all the member-institutions of the LTCE for investing time, effort, talent, and sincerity in the noble role they play in their council. I congratulate them for maintaining a robust relationship among themselves and for exploring other possible ways of making their presence in the community felt by those who need help the most,” he finally said.
