CV’s Labor Day job fair: 17,966 positions up for grabs

Cebu City,Philippines.The local and overseas job fairs simultaneously taking place on May 1, Labor Day, in Cebu City and Negros Oriental will offer a total of 17,966 positions to jobseekers. 

DOLE-7 Regional Director, Atty. Alvin M. Villamor announced this morning that the conduct of job fairs is one of the highlights of the Labor Day Celebration in coordination with the Cebu Provincial government, Cebu City government, and Dumaguete City government.. 

“In Cebu, all activities lined up for the celebration, especially the Job Fair, will take place in one venue, the IC3 Convention Center of Cebu. In Dumaguete City, the job fair will be at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, Capitol Area,” he said. 

The local job fair spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) offers 2,464 job vacancies with twenty (20) participating employers. 

Common positions included customer service representatives, cashiers, sales clerks, drivers, kitchen staff, waiters, engineers, service crew, carpenter, masons, and technical support representatives, among others. 

PESO-Cebu City will also facilitate an overseas job fair with a total of 8,242 job orders coming from fifteen (15) participating recruitment agencies. 

Jobseekers could opt from common positions needed abroad such as nurses, engineers, bell boys, cook, service crew, receptionists, waiters/waitresses, room attendants, graphics designers, and restaurant workers, among others. 

In Negros Oriental, the local job fair tallied 919 vacancies with twenty-one (21) participating employers, while its overseas job fair would offer 6,341 job orders coming from seven (7) recruitment agencies. 

“Thesevacancies will be waiting for all jobseekers and those who want to land on a job on May 1. We are encouraging everyone interested to participate and take every opportunity that these job fairs offer,” said Director Villamor. 

Registration for scheduled job fairs will start at 8:00 A.M. and the DOLE-7 Head reminded everyone to be ready with their biodata or resume, picture (2x2), certificate of employment if available, diploma or transcript of records and authenticated birth certificate. 

“Participants could also pre-register at designated Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs). For those previously registered applicants at the PESOs, they are to proceed to the selection area for vacancies where they can choose the position that best fits their qualification. Applicants should take note of the company's namethenproceed to the agency's booth right away,” advised Villamor. 

The conduct of job fairs aim to fast-track the meeting of jobseekers and employers/overseas recruitment agencies in one venue at a specific date to reduce cost, time and effort particularly on the part of the applicants. Job fairs are open to all unemployed, skilled and unskilled workers, fresh college graduates, graduates of training institutions, displaced workers and employees seeking advancement.
