Cebu City,Philippines.Ninety (90) children availed theOperation Tuli offered by the Department of Labor and Employment and the Industry Tripartite Council in Hospitals (ITC-Hospitals) on May 1, Labor Day, DOLE-7 Regional Director Alvin M. Villamor said in a statement.

The free circumcision service, Villamor added, was one of the services falling under the Medical and Dental Mission rendered on that day at the IC3 Convention Center of Cebu free of charge.

“Of the 114 who initially pre-registered with us, we tallied 90, the actual number of children availing the service, which was personally undertaken by volunteer-surgeons,” he said.

Apart from the Operation Tuli, also offered to the Labor Day participants were dental services, medical consultation, wellness counseling, and medical testing.

Under medical testing, bloodletting as well as random blood sugar testing and HIV-AIDS testing were made available.

More than 280 volunteers composed of doctor-surgeons, nurses and aids extended their services for free.

“We could not thank enough our partners, especially the ITC-Hospitals and the Department of Health who were instrumental in making the undertaking successful,” said the Regional Director.

The initiative was also done in close coordination with Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center; Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital; Philippine Dental Association; Philippine Nurses Association; Philippine National Police Station; Philippine Army; Occupational Health Nurses Association of the Philippines (OHNAP); Occupational Safety and Health Network (OSHNET); and Employees Compensation Commission (ECC); among others.

“The positive outcome of the joint initiative is a demonstration of how collaboration and working together could yield desired results. To all volunteers especially those who offered not only their services but also distributed free medicine to the clients, our heartfelt thanks to you. Your contributions mean a lot to the Department of Labor and Employment,” added the Director Villamor.

The Medical and Dental mission on May 1 was so far the biggest initiative of its kind done in the Region and according to the DOLE-7 Head, the Department is looking forward to conducting the same initiative in the future Labor Days to come, whereby more workers and their dependents are served.
