524 found jobs in Region-7’s Labor Day job fair

Cebu City,Philippines.Five hundred twenty-four (524) of the 3,637 jobseekers who trooped to the job fairs conducted during Labor Day landed on a job said DOLE-7 Regional Director, Atty. Alvin M. Villamor.

The data, he said, represented the total number of applicants hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) not only in the local and overseas job fair held at the IC3 Pavilion, the National Labor Day Celebration venue, but also in the same initiative conducted in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on May 1.

For local positions, the DOLE tallied 508 HOTs, while about sixteen (16) got their desired overseas positions.

“We are expecting for the number of HOTS to considerably change and surge three weeks to one month from now since we’ve recorded around 1,399 near hires,” he said.

Near hires are qualified job applicants, who are waiting for additional interviews and other pre-employment examinations and requirements.

Villamor noted that of the job applicants registered, around 1,457 were qualified, adding that there were more than 3,000 interviews conducted by participating employers since jobseekers could apply for several vacancies and be interviewed more than once.

For jobseekers who did not instantly get the job they eyed on, the DOLE-7 Head added, they were referred to DOLE’s partners involved such as THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Seventy-eight (78) applicants were referred to TESDA for skills training, thirty-two (32) to the DOLE-Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) for livelihood assistance, and around twelve (12) were referred to DTI for business opportunities.

“One of the services we offered during job fair was the non-monetary services also coined as the One-Stop-Shop Services. And for this one, we recorded 116 job applicants being referred to our partner-agencies such as National Bureau of Investigation, Social Security System, Professional Regulation Commission, and PHILHEALTH, among others,” explained the Regional Director.

It can be recalled that on May 1, highlighting the 116th Labor Day Celebration was the conduct of the Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs simultaneously done in Cebu City and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental luring job applicants with a total of 10,242 vacancies available.
