Cebu City, Philippines (12 May 2023). In partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region VII and Department of Trade and Industry Region (DTI) Region VII, the Department of Labor and Employment Region VII successfully mounted the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa during the 2023 Labor Day Celebration held in Cebu and Negros Oriental.

The said initiative, which was simultaneously held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu and at the HPG Area, Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, was participated in by 28 and 16 exhibitors, respectively.

On May 1, a total of P186,662.00 was collectively earned by the sellers and exhibitors in the said venues.

“We are delighted of the turnout of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa. This initiative is a testament of the government’s commitment to ensure of the general welfare of our workers, that of their families and the general public by providing affordable and accessible food, especially during these times where prices of goods are too high,” said Regional Director, Lilia A. Estillore.

“We are also thankful to the DA-7 and DTI-7 for their unwavering support, dedication and hard work in making the initiative a success,” Director Estillore said.

At the Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the sellers sold a total of P89,938.00 worth of goods and farm produce in just one day.

Detergent and Laundry products sold the highest at P10,800.00. Instant noodles, vegetables, root crops and fruits followed at P10,000.00 and P9,382.00, respectively.

In Dumaguete City, sellers earned a total of P96,724.00.

“We are still to get updates as their Kadiwa initiative lasted until May 3,” said Director Estillore.

Pineapples were considered the best sellers making the exhibitors earn P25,605.00.

Fresh duck eggs and ready-to-eat salted eggs helped the sellers earn P9,094.00 and about P6,080.00 out of the seafood products such as boneless bangus, fresh bangus, lamayo bangus, and shrimps.

Chief Labor and Employment Officer Efren Vito extended his gratitude to all exhibitors who have tirelessly worked to provide consumers with quality, yet cheap produce.

“Salamat kaayo sa DOLE-7, DA-7 ug DTI-7 kay gitagaan mi og chance nga makabaligya direkta sa mga tao sa among mga produkto nga barato ug sa pagsuporta sa amo nga mga mag-uuma (Thank you to DOLE-7 and DA-7 for giving us a chance to sell our products directly to the people at a lower cost and for supporting us, farmers),” said one of the sellers in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The same initiative was conducted previously at the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) last April 20-22, 2023. The 3-day event was participated in by 16 exhibitors who collectively earned P449,700.00.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo, loosely translated as “one idea, one thought with the President,” is a program of DA where farm-to-consumer market chain strategy is used. It allows local producers to sell their products directly to the consumers at a lower price and generate higher income in return since there are no middlemen involved.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa was one of the features of DOLE-7’s 2023 Labor Day Celebration conducted in Cebu and Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. ###
